About Maccas (Mcdonald's)
What Maccas (Mcdonald's) does, its mission and values, and what it's like to work there in Australia.
McDonald's — known across Australia as Macca's — is the country's largest quick-service restaurant chain, having opened its first local outlet in 1971. It operates more than 1,000 restaurants nationwide, around 85% of which are run by independent franchisees under the McDonald's brand, with the rest operated directly by the company. Its Australian support office is in Sydney.
Counted across its franchise network, McDonald's is one of Australia's largest private employers, with a system-wide workforce of roughly 115,000 people in every state and territory.
Because most restaurants are franchised, the majority of jobs — crew member, cook, customer-service, and shift-manager roles — are advertised and employed by the franchisee that runs each restaurant. These are largely casual and part-time positions covered by the Fast Food Industry Award, often a first job for students, stepping up to shift manager, department manager, and restaurant manager.
Above the restaurants, McDonald's Australia hires for corporate and field roles in operations and franchising, supply chain, property and construction, marketing, technology, finance, and people functions. Applications are handled directly through McDonald's and its franchisees; CareerTrees links through to those official listings.
