About Harvey Norman
What Harvey Norman does, its mission and values, and what it's like to work there in Australia.
Harvey Norman is an Australian retailer of furniture, bedding, electrical goods, and computers, founded in 1982 by Gerry Harvey and Ian Norman. The listed parent, Harvey Norman Holdings (ASX: HVN), is headquartered at Homebush West in Sydney and operates a franchise model: within each large-format store, separate departments are run by independent franchisees, while Holdings provides the brand, property, marketing, and systems. The group has more than 300 stores across Australia and several overseas markets.
Because of the franchise structure, most in-store jobs — sales consultants in furniture, bedding, electrical, and computers, plus warehouse and delivery roles — are advertised and employed by the franchisee that runs each department. Harvey Norman Holdings itself employs around 6,500 people in the functions it runs directly.
Those head-office and shared-service roles cover property and leasing, information technology, online and digital, marketing and advertising, finance, and distribution, based mainly out of the Homebush West complex. In-store retail roles are generally covered by the General Retail Industry Award.
Applications are handled directly through Harvey Norman and its franchisees; CareerTrees links through to those official listings.
