As part of the Group’s Digital and Customer Crew within the CommSec Practice, the Staff Software Engineer will play a pivotal role in Australia’s largest online retail stockbroker, CommSec. This high-visibility platform supports a diverse investor base and employs a range of technologies. The role involves working with a high-performing, multi-level team of software engineers, consulting on product and feature design, and providing support to deliver key products and solutions. Engineers at CommSec gain exposure to top-tier IT systems and are encouraged to grow their careers across multiple areas within the broader CBA network.

We’re interested in hearing from people who: 

  • Champion best practices in web and backend development, including architecture, testing, CI/CD, and performance optimisation.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact features and improvements to the CommSec platform.

  • Drive technical strategy and architectural decisions across Web and backend systems, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and security.

  • Promote a culture of innovation, inclusion, and psychological safety within the team.

  • Partner with stakeholders across product, design, and operations to align on goals and deliver exceptional customer outcomes.

Tech Skills:

  • Frontend: TypeScript and React (building scalable applications)

  • Backend: C# / .NET Core (designing and running APIs) or Java (willing to learn and work on .Net )

  • Databases: Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) or similar SQL/NoSQL databases

Nice to have:

  • Cloud platforms (AWS preferred; Azure or GCP also relevant)

  • CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and production operations

  • Testing (unit, integration, E2E)

  • Monitoring, alerting, and performance optimisation
