About the role

This role sits at the intersection of service design, data, and delivery. You will design and optimise internal data services that enable business teams to access, interpret and use data effectively.

Working within Business Banking, you’ll focus on how data is ingested, structured, and delivered to internal users. You’ll apply human-centred design and systems thinking to improve how data products operate across upstream systems, storage layers and downstream consumption.

This role combines strategic design thinking with strong analytical and delivery capability.

About the team

The Payments domain brings together the process, people and technology assets supporting real-time, bulk electronic, cheques, high value and international payments processing for the Bank. With the payments technology systems being at the heart of the Bank, almost every customer-facing product and channel relies on payments services in one way or another. The Data Crew within the Payments Domain has ownership over the Bank’s payments data to support development of new customer propositions and ensure compliance with regulatory obligations. The team are responsible to build and lead the world-class data delivery capability across critical payments data platforms and highly visible change initiatives.

What you’ll do

  • Apply Human Centred Design (HCD) and systems thinking to shape internal data services and experiences.
  • Work with stakeholders across business and technology to understand data needs, pain points and opportunities.
  • Analyse how data flows across systems, from ingestion through to consumption, identifying inefficiencies and risks.
  • Translate business and data requirements into clear artefacts such as service maps, process flows, and structured documentation.
  • Design and evolve end-to-end data services that improve accessibility, usability and value of data for internal users.
  • Partner closely with engineers, architects and product teams to ensure solutions are feasible, scalable and aligned to platform capabilities.
  • Define and articulate requirements, user needs and acceptance criteria to support delivery outcomes.
  • Support prioritisation and delivery planning by breaking down complex problems into actionable components.
  • Identify risks, dependencies and constraints across data systems, and support mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of ways of working, particularly across design, data and delivery practices.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience in Service Design, Customer Experience and Data.
  • Strong analytical capability, with the ability to understand and work with complex data systems and flows.
  • Experience working on data-led or platform-based products (particularly internal-facing services).
  • Ability to translate complex problems into clear, structured outputs (e.g. process flows, requirements, service artefacts).
  • Confidence working across both strategic design and delivery execution.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering and architecture teams in Agile environments.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and align across multiple business units.
  • Ability to balance business needs, technical constraints and risk considerations in decision making.
  • A systems-thinking mindset, with attention to both detail and end-to-end outcomes.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills to bring clarity to complex topics.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity with a proactive and self-directed approach.
