Business Banking (BB) manages relationships with Commonwealth Bank’s small-medium enterprise customers, mid-market corporate customers, regional and agribusiness customers, and personal and institutional online trading customers, providing a wide range of financial services and solutions.
The Payments domain brings together the process, people and technology assets supporting real-time, bulk electronic, cheques, high value and international payments processing for the Bank. Payments technology sits at the heart of the Bank, with almost every customer-facing channel relying on payments services in one way or another.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, Payments Platform, you will be part of the Payments Platform Crew, responsible for the Bank’s account-to-account payments capability. The Crew works closely with business stakeholders, channels, operations, risk, compliance and technology teams to deliver safe, resilient and customer-focused payments outcomes.

As a Senior Manager, Payments Platform, you will drive the Payments Platform roadmap to deliver exceptional outcomes for our business stakeholders and customers, both internally and externally.
You will play a key role in translating strategic priorities into actionable squad objectives, supporting delivery across the end-to-end value chain, and ensuring our platforms continues to meet the needs of customers, stakeholders and the Bank. You will help manage product performance, customer experience, operational risk, technology lifecycle priorities, regulatory obligations, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement initiatives.
This role requires strong payments knowledge, disciplined execution, proactive risk management and the ability to influence across business, product, operations and technology teams.
Your key responsibilities / focus areas will include
Supporting the implementation of the Payments Platform roadmap, working closely with the Executive Manager, Crew Lead, Product Owners, Line 1 Risk teams and business stakeholders.
Helping translate Crew strategy into clear squad priorities, objectives, delivery outcomes and backlog items.
Developing a strong understanding of account-to-account payment capabilities, including real-time, bulk electronic, high value, international and legacy payment processes where relevant.
Supporting end-to-end value chain management across performance, customer experience, operational risk, compliance, regulatory, cost and technology outcomes.
Working closely with stakeholders to understand current and emerging payments needs for consumers, businesses and institutional customers.
Driving delivery of agreed product, platform, risk, resilience and simplification initiatives across the Payments Platform Crew.
Identifying impediments, supporting decision-making and helping resolve delivery risks, escalations and cross-functional dependencies.
Partnering with channels, operations, technology, finance, risk, compliance and distribution teams to ensure payment capabilities meet functional, quality, resilience and customer requirements.
Supporting application lifecycle decisions, including build, scale, resilience, simplification, decommissioning and modernisation activities.
Monitoring platform and product performance across financial, operational, customer experience, risk and service measures.
Generating insights from performance data, incidents, customer feedback and stakeholder input to recommend improvements to product features, processes, controls and platform outcomes.
Supporting proactive management of material risks, obligations, incidents, issues and controls across the Payments Platform value chain.
Helping ensure delivery is safe, compliant and aligned to regulatory, scheme and internal policy requirements.
Building strong relationships across business stakeholders, channels, technology teams, operations, risk, compliance, finance and other Payments crews.
Supporting roadmap transparency across squads and stakeholders, including preparing updates, governance materials, delivery reporting and stakeholder communications.
Identifying lessons learned and opportunities for continuous improvement across delivery, ways of working, risk management and customer outcomes
We’re interested in hearing from people who have
Minimum 5 years’ experience in payments, financial services, product management, platform management, technology delivery or related business disciplines.
Sound understanding of account-to-account payments, payment processing, customer channels, operational processes and the broader financial services environment.
Proven ability to manage multiple deliverables, priorities and stakeholder expectations concurrently.
Strong stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated ability to influence across product, technology, operations, risk, compliance and senior business stakeholders.
Experience delivering product roadmaps, technology initiatives, risk buy-down, resilience uplift, process improvement or regulatory change.
A proactive risk mindset, with the ability to identify, understand, discuss and act on current and emerging risks.
Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, including the ability to use data, insights and business performance measures to inform recommendations.
Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues and drive alignment across teams.
Demonstrated ability to work autonomously while actively supporting the broader Crew and squad environment, helping build a high-performing and inclusive team culture.
Experience working in an Agile or PACE environment with Product Owners, delivery teams, engineers, operations teams or technology stakeholders to define requirements and support delivery.
Experience in domestic payments, real-time payments, bulk electronic payments, high value payments, international payments, payment operations or payment platforms will be highly regarded.
