Senior Legal Counsel, Treasury, Corporate & Technology
If you are an experienced lawyer looking to play a central role in a major APRA‑driven transformation program, with genuine influence, autonomy and senior stakeholder exposure, this might be your next career opportunity.
We are seeking an experienced senior lawyer to advise the CBA Group on the planning and implementation of APRA Prudential Standard CPS 900.
This role presents a unique opportunity to work on a significant, group-wide program, while being part of a leading internal legal team.
Success in this role means being a trusted adviser on complex matters, valued for judgment, commercial insight and an ability to get things done collaboratively.
Do work that matters:
You will take a lead role in providing practical, solution-focused legal advice and project leadership. The role will include:
- Support across all project workstreams, including legal project management and coordinating with business units, APRA and industry;
- Advising on interpretation and application of APRA prudential standards and related APRA guidance in a large, complex financial institution;
- Leading engagement and management of external legal advice on both domestic and foreign law issues;
- contract analysis and remediation; and
- Managing competing priorities and regulatory timelines while maintaining high‑quality legal outcomes.
Although dedicated to the CPS900 program, the role may also provide opportunities to contribute to other strategic projects or transactions where capacity and interest align.
See yourself in our team:
This role will sit within the Treasury, Corporate and Technology Legal team. This team provides trusted strategic advice to our internal clients to support and enhance CBA’s purpose and success.
The CPS 900 program involves partnering closely with Treasury, Resilience, Group Regulatory Affairs and business units across the Group, including dedicated project team members from those teams.
This role would suit a lawyer who brings:
- 6-8+ years relevant post-admission experience in a top-tier Australian or international firm or large in-house team and a current unrestricted NSW (or equivalent) practising certificate;
- Experience in one of the following areas:
- financial services regulation, hybrid securities or wholesale debt transactions or APRA’s prudential and capital framework;
- corporate advisory, contract advisory (including technology, outsourcing or commercial contracts) or complex contract remediation; and/or
- large regulatory change programs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead legal workstreams within multi‑disciplinary projects;
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and confidence engaging with senior leaders; and
- A team-oriented outlook, a “can do” attitude, integrity and sound judgment.
If you are ready to step into a trusted adviser role in-house and develop deep expertise in regulatory change, we’d love to hear from you!
