FCC is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing governance of the Group’s financial crime compliance program. This includes driving the Group’s approach to managing Anti-Money Laundering/Counter Terrorist Financing (AML/CTF), Sanctions, Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) and Anti-Tax Evasion (ATE) risks and obligations.

What your role will involve

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be part of a specialist engineering team reporting to the Chapter Lead, Data Engineering. While this role is focused on supporting CBA’s New Zealand-based subsidiary (ASB), it operates within the broader financial crime advisory team.

In this role, you will support ASB in delivering technology and process improvement initiatives to strengthen financial crime detection and prevention capabilities. This includes ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations and contributing to strategic reforms across financial crime risk management, including Australian reforms and AUSTRAC expectations.

You will work across modern data platforms including AWS Cloud, big data ecosystems and enterprise data warehouses to deliver scalable and reliable data solutions. You will contribute to the design and development of data pipelines, data models and data products that support financial crime detection, monitoring and reporting. This includes working on complex data problems involving large-scale data integration from internal and external sources.

On any given day, you will

  • Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines and data products

  • Develop and optimise data ingestion, transformation and integration processes

  • Work with large and complex datasets across multiple platforms and technologies

  • Contribute to data modelling activities (conceptual, logical and physical)

  • Ensure data solutions are reliable, secure and aligned with engineering standards

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions

  • Participate in agile delivery processes from ideation through to implementation

  • Apply best practices in coding, testing and deployment to ensure high-quality outcomes

  • Continuously improve data engineering practices and platform capabilities

We’re interested in hearing from people who have

  • Strong experience designing and building data pipelines and data solutions in big data and data warehousing environments

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Scala, Java or Python, and strong SQL skills

  • Experience with big data technologies such as Spark, Hadoop ecosystem tools (e.g. Kafka, Sqoop, MapReduce)

  • Experience working with AWS cloud services (e.g. EMR, Glue, S3, Kinesis, Redshift, Step Functions)

  • Experience with data modelling techniques (e.g. Data Vault, Kimball, 3NF)

  • Experience working with enterprise data warehouse platforms such as Teradata or Oracle

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work on complex data challenges

  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders

Desirable:

  • Experience with Ab Initio tools (e.g. GDE, Co>Operating System)

  • Experience working on large-scale Data Warehousing and ETL programs within Financial Services, particularly in Financial Crime domains

  • AWS Data Engineering certification (Associate level or higher)
