We are now seeking an exceptional AI leader to help define and build the future of Relationship Management through Agentic AI. Reporting to the Business Bank AI Lead, you will lead one of our most strategic AI portfolios, pioneering frontier multi-agent systems that augment relationship managers, transform customer engagement, and create meaningful competitive advantage at enterprise scale.
This is an opportunity to move beyond experimentation and shape the deployment of production-grade AI systems that influence thousands of colleagues, support millions of customer interactions, and establish new benchmarks for AI-enabled banking.
You will combine strategic vision, deep technical expertise, and inspirational leadership to build a world-class team, advanced AI capability across the organisation, and help define the next generation of intelligent systems within Australia's leading AI-powered bank.
Do Work That Matters
What You'll Lead
Build Frontier Agentic AI Systems
- Lead the design, orchestration and deployment of sophisticated multi-agent AI systems that combine reasoning, planning, memory, retrieval, tool use and workflow automation to transform customer and colleague experiences.
- Drive the evolution from isolated AI use cases to intelligent agent ecosystems capable of operating across complex business workflows and decision environments.
Shape Enterprise AI Strategy
- Influence Business Bank's AI strategy and roadmap, identifying emerging technologies, translating innovation into practical outcomes, and helping define how AI creates sustainable competitive advantage.
- Partner with senior executives, product leaders, engineers and domain experts to identify transformational opportunities and accelerate AI adoption at scale.
Advance the State of AI Practice
Drive technical excellence across Agentic AI, Generative AI and Machine Learning disciplines. Champion modern approaches to:
- Agent orchestration and coordination
- AI reasoning and planning architectures
- Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
- AI evaluation and benchmarking frameworks
- Human-in-the-loop systems
- Reinforcement learning and feedback systems
- AI observability, monitoring and governance
- Responsible AI and safety controls
Contribute to enterprise-wide AI standards, reusable frameworks, architectural patterns and best practices.
Build a high-performing AI Organisation
- Recruit, develop and inspire exceptional AI talent across Data Science, Agentic AI and Applied Research disciplines.
- Create an environment where curiosity, experimentation, technical excellence and continuous learning thrive.
- Develop future AI leaders while fostering a culture that challenges conventional thinking and pushes the boundaries of what is possible.
Drive AI Innovation at Scale
- Collaborate across CommBank's AI ecosystem and with leading technology partners, research institutions and AI communities to ensure Business Bank remains at the forefront of emerging AI capabilities.

Leadership
- Proven experience leading high-performing teams across Data Science, Machine Learning, Generative AI and Agentic AI disciplines.
- A track record of delivering complex AI programs from strategy through to production deployment.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive enterprise-wide outcomes in highly regulated environments.
- Experience building strong technical cultures and developing exceptional AI talent.
Technical Excellence
You are an experienced AI practitioner who remains deeply connected to technology and can operate credibly at both architectural and implementation levels.
You bring hands-on expertise across multiple areas including:
- Designing and deploying production-grade Agentic AI systems.
- Multi-agent orchestration architectures.
- Agent memory, planning, reasoning and tool-use frameworks.
- Agent evaluation, observability and performance optimisation.
- Fine-tuning and model adaptation techniques.
- Reinforcement learning and feedback-driven optimisation.
- AI governance, safety and guardrail design.
- Human-agent collaboration patterns
- Experience with frameworks and technologies such as: Semantic Kernel, LangGraph, AutoGen, OpenAI Responses API, Agent Development Kit (ADK), MCP ecosystems, Vector databases and retrieval systems
- Building scalable AI systems for enterprise environments - MLOps, LLMOps and AI platform capabilities.
